Freight & more at Thorpe Marsh - 9475
Its been on the agenda for some months, prompted by the possibility of industrial landscape, freights, landscape in general and hidden artworks... Weather cleared up enough yesterday for me and the man on a mission to go over and take a look around. We were pleased by the great feel to the area and Thorpe Marsh in particular though we did get greeted by a couple of the (friendly) National Grid guys there who informed us about trespass.. Still no matter, what we really wanted were opportune freight movements in what was a 'big sky' landscape, imbued with the sound of wind and water flowing everywhere. First shot on arrival is of the Dun Navigation and a boat was expected through the bridge so we waited around for its passage. Here, Desiderata has just passed under the lifting bridge, with the last 4 cooling towers of the Thorpe Marsh power station in the background, and navigating South under a leaden sky. The main line, ex-Great Northern & Great Central joint, railway bridge is in the background just under the car deck of the bridge.
