Worth waking up at 4am for? (on a Tuesday, no less)
It's a shot of Mt. Hood about an hour before sunrise.. taken from Sherrard Point on Larch Mountain.
There's a lot of details I like here; the clouds, of course, have lots of vibrant colors, and various shapes (I particularly like the bits near the top of the frame, that sort of fan out into the right corner).
I spent some time adjusting the exposure in the shadowy foreground hills, so you can just begin to make out their form. I like how they look on my (uncalibrated) monitor, but haven't yet had much success capturing this when printed..
The mountain itself causes me the most trouble. Being the subject and all, I want it to stand out more.. to have more depth and to be brighter. But that sort of lighting isn't particularly available before sunrise. It's already been tweaked a lot in this shot.. my attempts at taking it further made it look too much like it was just pasted over the sunrise.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with it. It's the first photo I've printed relatively large (19" long.. well.. would have been, anyway, if the printer hadn't inexplicably stopped after 18"!).
