From my hike today, a new found vantage point with what I think is the most incredible view of Linville Gorge from the northern end along Hurricane Wall. This location was shown to me by William Faulkner, an authority on trails in and around the gorge. With temperatures in the low 30s and a stiff wind blowing from the north/northwest, the air in the valley was clear of haze adding to the view. The last 100 yards or so was through a laurel thicket, with no trail visible, and vines with briars tearing at everything attached to one’s body, but upon arriving at the ledge all that was forgotten and a fantastic view to enjoy.
