Confeitaria Colombo is located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, one of the main tourist attractions in Downtown area.

The bakery was founded in 1894 by Portuguese immigrants Joaquim Borges de Meirelles and José Manuel Lebrão, with a long list of celebrity clients from the Brazilian society.

Its architecture and environment give an idea of what have been the Belle Époque in the capital of the Republic. Between 1912 and 1918 the halls inside the bakery have been reformed, with a touch of Art Nouveau, with huge crystal mirrors brought from Antwerp, surrounded by elegant friezes carved rosewood. The wooden furniture inside were carved at the same time by the craftsman Antonio Borsoi.

In 1922 its facilities were expanded with the construction of a second floor with a tea room. An opening in the roof of the ground floor to see the skylight of the tea room, decorated with beautiful stained glass (that was in maintainence by the time I took this photo).
