No salt, just cinders

For winter road conditions, California lays down volcanic rock (cinder cone crushings) for traction. Often called 'cinders'. Elevation here near 2803' @ Berry Summit, west of Willow Creek. Snow falls frequently in winter months at lower elevations in NorCal, so consider yourself warned.
