Since Campgrounds on the south side of Highway 89 are heavy forested, downhill from mountain, they do NOT offer any real good views of Mount Shasta. So, I spent one afternoon in search of just that. A great shot of the big mountain. The Massive Shasta shot.
Shasta Road # 19 (aka 43N19) is also called Military Pass Road, much of which is overgrown, with numerous spur roads and dense thicket.
The first mile from paved Pilgrim Creek Rd is flat and easily accessible, but beyond that it gets tight and forest is closing in.
Snow is the norm back here NOV-MAY. Snowmobiling is popular winter recreation back in these parts.
