Seen leaping from its perch high above the Chilkat River, a bald eagle springs into the air as if freed from a prison. The late fall along the river brings the last salmon run of the year, and with the salmon come the hordes of bald eagles looking to cash in on an easy meal before the long Alaskan winter. Numbering in the thousands, the eagles are as plentiful as the fish they are preying upon.
