A great monument from the 19th century showing with great historical accuracy how William and his six greatest ancestors as dukes of Normandy looked like. Well, at least how the artist imagined them to look like.

Richard II the Good (963-1027). He married his sister to the English king Ethelred in an attempt to prompt good relations - when they were not at war. But she was not very popular with the English. It did give Richard's grand-son William at least some claim to the English throne when it was time for that. Richard was first married to Judith and then to Poppa.
