Marsh Middle School College Tour
Two charter buses left from T.C. Marsh Middle School on Monday, June 4, carrying more than 50 seventh- and eighth-graders, and more than 30 teachers and parents for a five-day, all-expenses-paid tour of nine Texas colleges and universities.

The trip was planned by Marsh teachers Courtney Isaak and Will Cullen, supported by a grant of nearly $10,000 from Fidelity Investments. Additional support from local businesses, private community donors and a Terry Family Foundation challenge grant helped them reach their fundraising goal of more than $64,000.

Participating students are the first in their families to plan to graduate from college and were selected from a pool of applicants. On the tour, they will learn about the importance of a college education and how to navigate the college application and financial aid processes.

Nine schools are on the tour: Baylor University in Waco; Rice University in Houston; Texas A&M University in College Station; Austin College in Sherman; Trinity University in San Antonio; University of Houston; University of North Texas in Denton; UT-Arlington and UT-Austin.

In the weeks leading up to the trip, the students and their parents attended workshops led by Fidelity employees on topics including financial planning for the cost of college, preparing a college application and also heard advice from current high school students.
