And the sky lights up over Bartlett...
As we usually do on July 4th... a whole group of us were there in Bartlett, IL... in the summer heat under the deepening night sky... awaiting that first dramatic sequence of 'thump... kaPOW... ooooo... ahhhhh!' This is a slightly tweaked peak at the explosive and colorful next 20 minutes or so, once the sky lit up!
Ahhh... the senses come alive on this hot July evening: the unmistakable smell of gunpowder mixed with summer sweat... the sounds of several hundred up-close explosions... the gasps and wild cheering by thousands of spectators... the shrieks of frightened toddlers... neighborhood dogs barking... and that visual overload of color and brilliance and movement and surprise and light and dark!
And it all seems to echo (for hours!) afterwards as in the darkness all over, folks light off whatever fireworks they still have left after already freely contributing several nights of pretty constant neighborhood noise! ;)
There is just nothing subtle about a 4th of July celebration!
