Portrait of an Alpha Predator

American Alligator - Anhinga Trail, Royal Palms, Everglades National Park, Homestead, Florida

Alpha?

Well . . . if you consider some of the 15 foot Crocks in "The Glades", maybe this guy is Beta!

Though either way, I can't imagine myself in waders fly fishing the Evergaldes with these guys around. Though I'm told they rarely attack humans, but that only makes me wonder . . .

"What exactly is the definition of rarely?",

and does it take into account the fact that people rarely enter the water with these guys around?
