Gymnoclytia Fly

Male Gymnoclytia Fly - Scherman-Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary, 9 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, New Jersey

In my opinion this guys abdomen is his best feature so I lead with the butt shot. :{)

FYI - Gymnoclytia flies are parasites of Stink Bugs which seem to be quite abundant this year (especially to the south of us). Both the larval and adult Pentatomids (stink bugs) are parasitized by these guys. Gymnoclytia flies are also known to parasitize Noctuid moth caterpillars (e.g. owlet moths), and Pierid butterfly caterpillars (e.g. Cabbage Whites), so they would be good guys to have around your cabbage patch.
