Taken at Bearizona Wildlife Park in Williams, AZ.
This big boy was lumbering around the drive-through adult black bear enclosure. They seem to have almost two dozen mature adult bears in the paddock, but every single time I have visited the park, they have been asleep or extremely lethargic.
I got a real treat this time! The bears were all up and enjoying the spring weather. This guy got within 5 feet of my car, and though you're not allowed to roll your windows down, I rolled mine down just long enough to fire off a few shots of his face. Then he got up and came closer and we had to move away before the park staff said something.
Once, a carload of foreign tourists didn't obey the rules and I watched a 400 pound sow jump on the hood of their rental car and plop down. Goodbye hood! Then one of her friends came along and ripped the rearview mirror off the passenger side and claimed it as a trophy. Good stuff! Hope they took out rental insurance!
