Tunisia, Ksar Hallouf - Working the drylands with horse and plough - May 2010

This farmer ploughs traditionally, with horse and plough, in order to increase water infiltration into the soil. Desertification threatens around half of the land area of Tunisia suitable for agriculture, forestry and pasture farming. Soil and water conservation techniques and rangelands rehabilitation have however been implemented.
