Blue Christmas

    Newer Older

It's not easy to photograph Disneyland's big tree on Main Street USA. It's 65 feet tall, and surrounded CONSTANTLY by guests wishing for a photo next to it. Plus, Disneyland's Photopass guys are on BOTH sides of the tree...Disneyland replaced the traditional living tree with this Imagineered LED tree a couple of years ago. I really like the way it shines blue photos, making it stand out even more.

Many photographers hate people in their disney parks shots, but I don't mind...people add an authentic and emotional element that recalls your own memory of the scene.
I got lucky here, and only had a few folks stop during the long exposures. The Photopass guy is doing what I'm doing, so I like him...

The wide angle lens I am using here turned vertical to capture the entire tree has madeSleeping Beauty's Castle into a tiny miniature waaaay down the street....

      Wow!

Gorgeous shot, Gregg! I'm hoping I can get color like this when I start working on my last batch of shots. You've really set the bar here.

End-of-Year at Disneyland (other Parks too) is a very special place; between the holiday decorations, lights, sounds and smells makes one feel the holidays as turn-of-the-century America had experienced the so long ago. Photographs like this one help to show the spirit of Christmas everyday : the challenge is to get everything "just right", and you nailed this shot. The lights add to the problem of the right exposure, as is the hight of the tree.
