Roughing in the Rack Mount
The Nitto "Mark's Rack" which Rivendell sells is an interestingly versatile little design. All things considered, I probably favor mount-specific construction, as on the Quickbeam's Nitto Mini Front Rack. But, with this versatile design, I can swap it around and mount it on the front of the bike, if I want to run my Nigel Smythe Lil Loafer. It comes with additonal mount hardware to work with either a brake hole mount, or with seatstay brazeons such as those which come on the Hilsen
The lower seatstay struts were cut to length using a small pipe cutter, then dremeled smooth to fit through the anchoring bolt on the rack. The stays were originally about 2.5" longer. I did not cut the forward struts.
The tolerances are amazingly tight (well, it is Nitto...) and when everything was tightened down, it was danged solid.
It looks like the gap above the tire is larger than it should be, but the fenders still need to go on.
