little green car in a big cloudy puddle
Shot last Sunday, when we went to the beach, got rained on, and returned home to find the ground floor of our apartment building and parts of the basement under water. No lights/ elevator for two days in the halls and basement, and the electronic door openers were out of service too.
On Monday morning I had to leave the building via the back entrance and enter the basement through the trash room because there's no connection between our staircase and the basement where we keep our bikes. No daylight in the basement either, so I had to use my iPhone display to find the way to our little storage room and get my bike out.
And this is just the beginning. "Brace for impact", as Paul Gilding, author of The Great Disruption, says.
I hope that when the going gets tough, they will have replaced the electronic locks by mechanical ones in our building, so that we can at least get in and out again when there's flooding/ power outage. On the upside, we're on the 4th floor on a dike, so the chance that our apartment gets flooded is way smaller than if we were living on the ground floor in a polder.
