The royal harvestman

This tiny Harvestman Megabunus diadema was really something else! When I was photographing slugs with my 100 mm macro-lens, something small ran between the lens and the slug. I threw a shot after it, and discovered something I had never seen before. What a stunner! With a body-length of about 3 mm. the animal was way to small for the 100 mm., so after changing to the 65 mm. better shots were obtained. A big, but still small, experience.

The species is mainly parthenogenetic, and males have never been recorded in Norway. The species is only found along the coast of western Norway, but is distributed in several other countries in western Europe, including the Faroes and Iceland.
