Fort Negly - Battle of Nashville

Battle of Nashville

December 15-16, 1864

Fort Negley is located on a large hill south of the city of Nashville. Negley and other similar fortifications gave Union commander George Thomas a very strong defensive perimeter around Nashville.

And while the fort never came under direct fire during the Battle of Nashville, some of the first artillery barrages of the battle were fired from Fort Negley.
