Morningside Lights 2016
The fifth annual Morningside Lights took place in Morningside Heights, September 17-24, 2016. Alex Kahn and Sophia Michahelles, artists and creative directors of Processional Arts Workshop, once again led free lantern-making workshops and helped community members of all ages bring their creative ideas to life. This year's theme, TraVerse, celebrated 100 years of Pulitzer Prize-winning poetry with a fleet of literary lanterns inspired by the writing of Robert Frost, Wallace Stevens, Elizabeth Bishop, Tracy K. Smith, and many other timeless poets. The week-long build culminated in an illuminated procession from Morningside Park to Columbia University, featuring an immersive, multi-media score by composer Nina C. Young.
