The islands of Micronesia are globally recognized as a biodiversity hotspot that supports the Earth’s richest endemic flora (per total land area). The Micronesian region encompasses the Republic of Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Republic of Kiribati, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and the US territory of Guam covering a total area of over 7,000,000 km2 – an area larger than the continent of Australia.
