A Quiet State Street in 1942

As major construction on Chicago's first subways finished and the continuing work was largely underground, future subway entrances are visible here on State Street in the Loop, looking north from Van Buren.

Advertisements on boxes cordoning off the not-yet-opened subway entrances encourage high school grads thru age 26 to apply on Jackson Blvd to fly for the Navy, as the United States was fully engaged in World War II.
