Secretary of State Clinton on Our Opportunity with the Americas

    Newer Older

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton called the U.S.-Latin America relationship one of this country’s most important long-term commitments in her speech at CSIS on March 18. President Obama’s trip to Brazil, Chile, and El Salvador will lay the foundation for a new era of engagement with the region based on mutual respect, common interest, and shared values.

Secretary Clinton argued that the “power of proximity” and Latin America’s recent economic and democratic development present opportunities to cooperate on economic and strategic issues and promote shared values of democracy and human rights.
