1948 Buick Roadmaster Convertible cake
Made for my father-in-law's 60th.
This is my second car cake, and I was quite nervous about doing this one, as I was unable to source any blue-prints/scaled drawings, so the cake had to be made entirely from photos and pictures off the internet. I was rather chuffed with how it turned out in the end!
The cake was HUGE at almost half a metre long, and was hours and hours of work. I worked on it over a 4-day period (until the wee hours of the morning!), and every time I thought it was done, I found more details that needed to be added! In fact I realised after taking the pictures that I had forgotten to add the front parking lights! So they were added right before the party, just in the nick of time!
The cake is carved from three 9-inch square chocolate mud cakes, is layered with ganache, and is all edible.
The cake is a replica of a car owned by my father-in-law, however his one is more of a "renovator's delight!" :)
