The Elephant Safari..
As the sun drops below the horizon the elephants plod thro the swirling dust to the waterhole.... Tamarind trees stand guard over a family of hippos in the water below and offer nightly protection to the baboons that scamper up into their branches... Impala and Waterbucks wander into camp and lie down below the tents.. a hush comes over the camp as the birds go to roost.... Bats flitter out of the trees and an owl makes a soft call..
The tents are extremely comfortable and decorated in an african theme.. each has its own shower and loo built out of crafted wood and stone... the shower buckets are filled with hot water every evening... a wonderful luxury after a dusty busy day out in the bush..
Cold drinks and a delicious dinner await you in the attractive bar and dining room.. Attentive waiters ask after your day and what animals you have seen... in the rafters a pair of genet cats seemingly unworried by the camera flashes pose.. then with a whisk of their black and white ringed tails are gone...
excitement as a pair of Striped hyena walk thro camp... swiftly followed by a Black backed Jackal.. a lion comes to drink during dinner but goes unnoticed ..... only to roar his disdain as he slips into the dark....
An Askari walks you to your tent.. this is wild Africa.. no electric fences here... the stars are so bright and look so close that you feel you can reach up and touch them... scuffling in the bushes and the wind thro the trees heighten your senses but all is at peace.... the moon with the help of spotlights light up the waterhole and it is an awesome sight to sit up in bed at 1 in the morning and see elephants drinking... passing silently thro like giant ghosts...
The dawn breaks with the chorus of birds...... sandgrouse singing as they sweep in in their hundreds.... dropping to drink quickly and take to the skies again.......... Zebra... nervous but thirsty... Hartrbeest.. Impala.. Waterbuck.. Vervet Monkeys.. Baboons...Dwarf mongeese... and the endless stream of elephants... drinking your early morning tea on your verandah this is the most perfect way to start another exciting day in Tsavo.. The Home of Safari...
