Lifestyles | Northridge, CA | Devonshire Downs
Opening in the mid-1940's as a horse racing track, Devonshire Downs was purchased by the state in 1948 to be the home of the annual San Fernando Valley Fair. This became part of CSUN in 1959, mostly it was open space with one large dorm building. Over 200,000 people came to see Jimi Hendrix and others perform here for Newport '69.
Every Fourth of July, one of the best fireworks shows in the Valley would be here.
Around 10 yeras ago, the race track was converted into what is now Medtronic (MiniMed) headquarters.
There is still open space to the right of this view, CSUN has plans to develop it into a residental community, the sales office is already in place.
