Renaissance Revival armchair
This style of chair belongs in the category called "Renaissance Revival," in which exuberant carving was a prominent feature. This chair was likely built in the late 1880s; the carving was probably done by hand. Our customers saw it at an auction and fell in love. They bought it for $25 and paid us over $1,000 to restore it. (Yes, that is a lot of money. But just remember: this is all hand-labor, and it took several days!!)

The chair was stripped down to the bare frame and both seat and back springs were restored. Paul also cleaned the wood and rubbed it with oil. The finishing touch was trim known as "double welt."
