Two Georgian windows

These are sash windows (which the French suggestively call 'guillotine windows').

The brick elevation is painted dark grey (!) - not an unusual practice in London. The colours are often vivid and contrasting with those of the doors of nearby buildings - like the colour scheme of a gipsy woman dress.

The cast iron fence protects the stairwell access to a basement patio (see windows below). London basements are, almost without exception converted into flats or offices.
