The last refuge...

Trapped by the rising waters... Many of these little fellas won't make it through the night... I dread to think whats happened to the ground nesting birds around here... :@(

Lovely catch and well topical! I suspect it's not just ground breeders that will be struggling, I've been hearing about washed out Peregrine nests that were being covered by webcams, think the rain will have scuppered many birds breeding season - but at least our rivers are flowing again at the moment.

Wonderful detailed image, packs a punch with colour. I also wonder whats happened to the ground nesting birds, you should see the Apex, very few birds about. Secret world has been overflowig with rescued birds.

      WOW - well spotted Graham.
I love the reflection too, a really great photo - even though I don't like snails in my garden, I hope these got back on to dry land - food chain and all that.....!!

Gosh that's such a beautiful if poignant shot!
Won't these seal themselves up in their shells and with the trapped air inside, float to somewhere safe? One of the swans that nest on the Severn in Shrewsbury has had its nest washed away too.... so sad....

This is a really stunning and effective image Graham and captures perfectly the dilema of some of our wildlife when the flood waters rise, well done indeed :)
