The Sackett-Mason photograph collection consists of about 300 photographs accumulated by the Mason family, who lived on 119 Temple St, Fredonia (Chautauqua County) NY. The photos span 1850s through 1919 and include daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, tintypes, albumen prints, and silver gelatin prints.

The photos were purchased in assorted batches from an antiques dealer in Bergen NY in 1979 -- after the last family member died and the house sold. We spent many hours identifying the photos and piecing together the family history.

The heart of the collection is the idealized small town family of the 19th century, through the eyes of the skilled photographer Charles O. Mason. Charles and his brother Eugene married into the old-American Sackett family. They had beautiful wives and handsome sons. The Fredonia families prospered and then... they were gone.
