North Branch trout stocking
In 2014, Mettiki Hatchery was completed, part of a cooperative agreement with Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to culture trout directly in the shadow of Mettiki Coal's acid mine drainage treatment plan in Garrett County, Maryland. Trout grown in the hatchery are used to stock the North Branch of the Potomac River.
The North Branch downstream of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jennings Randolph Lake is especially popular with anglers and fishermen. The area is recognized as a high-quality fishery and popular trophy trout destination, thanks in part to a long-standing partnership between the Corps and DNR.
