Manchester by Shok1
Getting round to editing some shots from a couple of months ago when Olivier and I went to Manchester for the day. He shot this image, and if he hadn't I would have :) The litter bags were positioned there just so- lovely :)
The shutter was part of a whole piece of art work commissioned by graffiti artists in the area to come up with a unique design for the individual shutter, when all the shops closed at the end of the day, the work was then on display.
Shok1 was the artist here. Apparently his message here was that he feels he has graffitted at least 150000000 pieces of work around the city- and this is just one of them :)
The man sitting next to us in the coffee shop explained it. He was an artist himself and had been doing it for at least 20 years. His neck was all burned from running into electric cables when he was younger whilst illegally graffiiting artwork. I asked him where he gets the paint from (I've always wondered) nowadays he gets commissioned for work so over orders on the paint. Back in the 80's they went over to Germany, reckied the hardware stores and literally took it all off the shelf- apparently it was unthinkable that people would steal it so security was virtually nil. Made easy pickings for the artists.
