Two and a half months ago my mom went in for a routine knee surgery as a bright vibrant young gal and tragically has been hospitalized ever since. Long nightmare story short, she came down with Guillain-Barré Syndrome, a rare autoimmune polyneuropathy disease that causes paralysis and extreme pain. She nearly died. She was totally paralyzed for weeks, and here two and half months later she is just getting enough strength back to go home. She can only manage a few steps with my help, a walker, and leg braces, but each is literally a step in the right direction. This has been a terrifying, draining experience for me -- but my mom is a scrappy old gal and has fought this disease with everything she has and is finally ready to go home. We still have a long road ahead, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. Love you ma.
