Destrehan Plantation

Built in 1787, Destrehan Plantation (also known as D'estrehan) is the oldest intact plantation home in the lower Mississippi Valley. The house remained in the Destrehan family line for most of its time as a privately owned home and is rumoured to still be home to some ghosts of the Destrehan family (although you have to be lucky to get a tour guide to confirm this as they aren't supposed to talk about it). This home also played a part in the Louisiana Purchase and is home to the original Jefferson Document. The home was deserted from 1959 - 1971 and restorations began in 1971 and the home is now open to the public.

For the movie-goer, scenes from Interview With the Vampire were filmed here.
