Myrtle Falls

Must View Large!

This is a shot of Myrtle Falls. It is a short walk from Paradise. I was in the clouds. The fog made for very difficult lighting, but a cool effect. This is a processed RAW.

I really wanted to make a trip to see the wildflowers around Rainier this summer. My destination in mind at first was Spray Park. I looked at a map and figured it would be about a 6 hour drive for me to even get to the park. That didn't sound ideal, so I figured I would just got to Sunrise and Paradise instead. I decided to come in on 410 via Chinook Pass and hit Tipsoo first in the morning. Then I planned to go to Sunrise before the sun angle got bad in the afternoon. That turned out to be a waste of time because the top of the mountain was starting to cloud up and there was hardly any flowers. So I then headed down to Paradise, but the mountain was fully shrouded on the way up so I stopped at Sunbeam Falls to burn some time.... I ended up comp-stomping the crap out of the place, spending about 50 minutes there... I got up to Paradise to find that I was IN the clouds. To me it was better than being below the clouds because either way I wouldn't see the mountain, but this way, the fog added a nice effect on some of the shots. I just wandered around the meadows taking pictures and then hiked to Myrtle Falls, which was nice, but would have been amazing if the mountain had shown itself..... On the way home, I stopped at Narada Falls and Christine Falls. Both were very nice, but were pretty limited as far as comps. All in all, I was worth the trip. I'm not complaining because out of the 6 times I have been to the park, the weather has been crystal clear and beautiful 5 times. (3 of those 5 trips weren't even planned, they were spur-of-the-moment trips:)) I hope to go back next year and have better weather. :)
