The Lone Ranger

Lake State SD40 #5921 heads north light power across Cheboyganing Creek on a pleasant spring evening back in 2010. At the time, 5921 was LSRC's only 6 axle locomotive, and it rarely seemed to venture north of Saginaw. As I recall, the crew took the SD40 up to Essexville to put together an empty coal train to bring back south. The bridge over the creek dates from the PM era, and both "Pere Marquette" and Chesapeake & Ohio" lettering can still be seen on its flanks. As of 2021, 5921 has been OOS for quite some time and will likely not be returned to service. A sad end for one of the last ex Grand Trunk Western SD40s.
