How The Turn Tables
GMTX GP38-2 #2204 rests next to the load test box and the old turntable at Grand Elk's Hughart yard in Grand Rapids. The turntable is a relic from the PRR era and was installed after the PRR and NYC roundhouses were closed. At only 80 feet long, it could only spin one locomotive at a time. Unfortunately, it hasn't turned any locomotives since the 1990s. Watco looked at repairing it a couple of years ago, but deemed it too expensive.
