Early morning north of Muskegon finds Mid Michigan Railroad GP38 #2057 (formerly Grand Rapids Eastern #3839) pulls a string of loaded sand hoppers south from Nugent Sand Co's Berry Junction loading facility. This was once the junction of the Pere Marquette's lines from Muskegon, Whitehall and Whitecloud. The White Cloud line currently ends in Fremont, where the Michigan Shore still visits a couple of times a week. The line to Whitehall now ends about a mile behind the train. The wye is still here and is used often.
2057 puffs out a cloud of gray smoke as it accelerates the short but heavy train south, back towards North Yard in Muskegon.
