Edition 2011 - European Local Democracy Week
Initiated in 2007 by the Council of Europe, the European Local Democracy Week has become the pan-European event of citizens' participation in local life. The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities is the body in charge of the coordination of this grassroots policy campaign. By proposing Human rights at local level as ELDW 2011 leading theme, the Congress' aim was to strenghten the concepts of social cohesion, of intercultural dialogue and respect for every human beings.
A great number of communities across Europe have organised, around the 15 of October, thousands of events, meetings, competitions, exhibitions and lectures, mostly focused on human rights issues.
