NUJ won't accept me as a member

I can't get a student membership because I'm not doing a journalism course, and I can't apply for a full membership because I'm in full time education.

Why do you think you can join a professional organisation without any of the training and skills? Why don't you go for the RIBA or RSA next - I suspect they may say the same....

I'm a freelance writer on contract with AOL: that should satisfy the NUJ.

Why can't I become a member if I'm currently in full time education?

And this is one of the many reasons why I quit being a member of the NUJ - they simply don't have their priorities straight.

AFAIAC your AOL gig makes you a legitimate freelance journalist, and thus are perfectly entitled to join the union.
