Piñon Canyon firefighting, June 2008
Helicopters and crews from the Colorado Army National Guard's 2nd Battalion, 135th General Support Aviation, dropped 500-gallon buckets of river water onto the wildfire burning the training range at Fort Carson, Colo., June 12-13, 2008. The Soldiers were supporting the Department of Defense and the National Forest Service in battling approximately 42,000 acres of wildfires burning 40 miles southeast of the Army base in the Piñon Canyon training site.
