Project 366 #245: 010912 I Walk Along The City Streets...
My step count was utterly abominable today, so by about half eight I'd summoned the will to go out for a monster walk.
As it happened, I ended up circling Stanley Park and swinging by Goodison.
I noticed that Stanley Park has had a really good lighting upgrade, so the path across the park is beautifully lit. Strangely though, it's still behind a locked gate so you can't walk on it even though it's safe to!
When I got home it was to the sad news that not only have we lost Max Bygraves today, but we've also lost legendary lyricist Hal David.
He's most famous of course for working with Burt Bacharach in an age where songwriters were celebrated and highly publicised. The modern age of the singer/songwriter really hurt the profile of professional songwriters who are just as busy as they've ever been even if they don't shout about it as much.
The title - perfectly appropriate for my long city walk - was the memorable first line of one of my favourite Bacharach & David songs: 'Always Somethng There to Remind Me', recorded probably most famously by Sandie Shaw.
The simplicity of the writing is key to the song's success. RIP.
