Project 366 #93: 020412 Wheels Of Steel...
...only it's probably not steel, and far more likely to be iron.
Part of the day's activities included a visit to the National Slate Museum, situated in the centre of the former Denorwic Quarry.
One of the most interesting things for me was seeing how the power mill had drive shafts that operated every power tool in the complex. It was driven by this unexpectedly huge water wheel, which is encased in a tower.
It was also interesting that this huge water wheel is almost next door to Denorwic power station, which is one of the largest pumped storage hydroelectric power stations in the world. I guess a good idea remains a good idea.
