Marcos Baghdatis

For the past 2 weeks, I was glued to the Australian Open in cable TV. Rabid tennis player that I am, I have several favorites. Was I disappointed when my bet Andy Roddick was out-aced and outslammed by this exciting firebrand from Cyprus in the 4th round. Since then, Marcos Baghdatis, all of 20 years, blitzed all the way to the Men's Finals, becoming the first unseeded men's finalist in Australia since I-don't-know-when. He lost to the almost immortal Roger Federer but gained the hearts of his entire country and the tennis world. Now I am a fan too.

Oh, and in this photo, he also lost in the Boy's Finals in September 2002 at the US Open. The winner is another player to watch, Richard Gasquet of France. Both were 16 at the time.
