1887 Clouded Border Lomaspilis marginata Family Geometridae - Ennominae

 

Wingspan 30 - 38 mm

 

Phenology Flight Period: Beginning of April to mid-August.

 

Description: Adults are white with black markings on the margins of both wings. The black and white markings show considerable variation in the wild.may be disturbed during the day but is predominately a Night Flier There is a rare form diluta in which the black is replaced by a yellow gold colour. This aberration is extremely rare and seldom encountered.

 

Habitat: Occupying woodland and moist localities associated with a variety of habits particularly heaths, bogs, and damp woodland.

 

Larvae The larvae feed on sallow (Salix) and poplars (Populus), especially aspen (P. tremula). The larvae can be found in August and September on willow Salix spp., poplar Populus spp. and Hazel Corylus avellana. It overwinters as a pupa.
