The Amazing Ms. A and her Metrofiets
Some talk the talk, and don't do jack. Others walk the walk, and don't say jack. This statuesque redhead walks the walk and speaks her mind, eloquently and often, at Change Your Life Ride a Bike .
We all want to make the world a healthier place...for ourselves, our friends, our children. Most of us have a list of "I would if I could's." Most of us also have a list of "but I can't because's."
"I can't" is the biggest personal obstacle between people (as self-determining individuals) and a healthier world. "I don't have time." " I live too far away from work/school/shopping/friends." "I'm not in good-enough shape." "I can't afford too." "It's too dangerous." "My friends will think I'm weird." These are just a few of the more common excuses.
Ms. A is a married mother of four. She takes care of her daily transportation needs with this and a couple of other bikes. She gets around the hills of San Francisco just fine. Parking is never a problem. She's saved thousands of dollars on gasoline. Rollin' next to her through the streets of SF was empowering, and worry-free. She's a leader locally, and an inspiration globally. She can and does.
Obama said, "Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek."
Ms. A is not waiting. She is the change she seeks. I'm honored to call her 'friend.'
