Grave of Private 3/10645 Robert Hoolan/Hoolahan,2nd Battalion Duke of Wellingtons Regiment,West Riding of Yorkshire

After 95 years a member of this soldiers family managed to find the grave to pay their respects.

Robert Edward Hoolahan was killed in action on the first day of the Battle of the Somme,1st July 1916.

Unfortunately there is an error with the surname of this soldier.

All existing records pertaining to the man buried in this grave show his name to be "Hoonan"

In fact my research shows the name of the soldier is Hoolan/Hoolahan and it would appear that an error was made at the timne of his recruitment.

An appeal to try and have his name corrected by the Commowealth War Graves Commision is currently ongoing.
