Shanghai - Zhejiang Road Bridge

Zhejiang Road Bridge (浙江路桥) leads from Shanghai's Huangpu District into Zhabei District, crossing Suzhou Creek. The Zhejiang Road Bridge is another veteran, of similar age as the Garden Bridge.

This type of bridge is called a "Lenticular Truss Bridge".

Completed in 1908 with a single track tram line. It replaced a wooden bridge that was in this place since 1880. In 1924 double tram tracks were laid over the bridge. It underwent strengthening in 1965 and again in 1974 with removing the tram tracks and adding sidewalks for pedestrians. Additional overhauls in 1986 and 2008.

Zhejiang Road around the bridge is one of the few streets in Shanghai where one still can find the old China cliche with bicycles and motorcycles dominating the traffic scenery.

This is shot from the Huangpu District side, from atop the flood wall along South Suzhou Road. See where this picture was taken. [?]
