The World Bank and the Center for Mediterranean Integration jointly organized the 1st MENA diaspora workshop on “Mobilizing the MENA Diaspora for Global Integration, Investment, and Knowledge Transfer” and brought together policy makers and diaspora members from six MENA countries (Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia) as well as development actors active on diaspora issues in the MENA region. Participants discussed mechanisms through which diaspora members can contribute to the globalization of the region such as investment, entrepreneurship, knowledge transfer and networking, as well as the role of governments and development institutions. The workshop also presented the findings from a survey and series of consultations previously held with diaspora members in Paris, New York, and Washington DC.
