Minnesota has 1000-1200 wind turbines, with over 200 of those being in Pipestone County. Buffalo Ridge, or Coteau de Prairie, is a glacier-deposited ridge that runs diagonally across Minnesota and through Pipestone County. With an elevation of 1950 feet, it experiences continual wind speeds of 18 mph. This and the fact that there is so much farmland make it an ideal location for a wind farm. Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty signed into law in 2007 a renewable energy requirement for 25% of the electricity produced by state utilities to come from renewable resources by the year 2025.
